Livingstone Road Community Allotment has been running for several seasons now and we meet every Wednesday (by prior arrangement) when we involve local people in growing food, with all the benefits of spending time outdoors and being productive. Birchfield Residents Action Group (BRAG) set up the allotment project, which has a part-time paid worker and currently receives funding from Birchfield Big Local.

The  allotment project does great work with socially isolated people who live in nearby hostels and we also involve and connect many more local people of all ages and backgrounds to the natural environment. We want to promote the allotments as a local resource by encouraging  more people to become volunteers, participants or partners in the project.

We’ve been involved in litter picks and clean up days, helping hostels to grow food in their own gardens and yards and even a spot of guerilla gardening in the planters near Perry Barr island. This Summer we worked with a group of young people to create a herb garden on the allotment and we have started a food project that involves sharing recipes and creating a social space.

We’ve got lots of ideas for the future and we are working with various partners to make them happen, but we are always keen to hear from interested parties. Watch this space for more details of our latest activities and if you would like to get involved or just find out more, give us a call or drop us an email.
