Every Wednesday between now and Dec 18th we are serving simple, freshly cooked food at Livingstone Road Allotments. You will find us in the Pavilion Building just inside the allotment gates, opposite Broadway Dance School (just knock on the door).

Anyone is welcome to come and join us between 12.00-1.30pm and for a voluntary donation you can sample our latest dish, every week is a different recipe featuring allotment grown produce! You will meet some new people and while you are here maybe you can give us some ideas for what to cook and find our more about our work. But don’t come too late or the pot may be empty!

The Allotment Cooking project is funded by the Near Neighbours scheme and once we have gathered enough recipes, we are going to produce a community cookbook that we will distribute locally. So each week we are writing down the ingredients and preparation methods of what we cook. We also need your ideas to suggest what we can cook in the following weeks and in sessions that take place after Christmas.

Today we cooked a lovely winter soup using some of the produce we have been saving, a big orange pumpkin and a big yellow squash, with a special blend of spices! We served it with some french stick and butter and with our cafe style seating we transformed the hut into a sociable Lunch Club.

Conversations roamed from horse meat to offal and beyond! Strange considering we were eating vegetarian soup! Handsworth Helping Hands popped in to get warmed up before going off to tackle more local litter and clean up jobs. If any of this sounds interesting, why not come along and introduce yourself?!
